While Hyderabad is enjoying the monsoon season, its raining king crabs at Mekong. One of Hyderabad’s top Pan Asian restaurants, Mekong is well know for its exotic fine dining Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese and Korean fare. It’s a popular haunt among the city’s movers and shakers.
And now, taking its gourmet craft a notch higher is a month-long King Crab Fest. Till 19th September, guests can savour some of the best crab recipes from across Asia right here in Hyderabad.
Available for both lunch and dinner at Rs1200 plus tax, you get to choose between 6 variations
- fresh king crab cooked in Singapore chilly garlic sauce
- fresh king crab with garlic butter
- steamed crab in black pepper sauce
- chilly tao-pan king crab
- steamed crab with baby ginger and scallion
- fresh king crab in spicy fragrant sauce
I sampled the fresh king crab cooked in Singapore chilly garlic sauce and the king crab with garlic butter and loved both equally. Both preparations retained the tenderness and moisture of fresh crabs and were cooked to perfection. But then with Executive Chef Taraknath Mukherjee at the helm, you’re assured of nothing but the best.
The restaurant lays out the entire paraphernalia to get cracking – right from the crab cracker and plier, forks and even a cute bib so you can really enjoy getting to the meat of your treat.
Or if you prefer the easy way out, they’ll even serve it to you de-shelled.
While the highlight of the fest is the crab, I also sampled some amazing sashimi and steamed prawn and water chestnut dumplings.
For dessert an absolute must-try is the wasabi ice cream. Even if you aren’t a fan of this spunky root, you’ll love this frozen version.
So head on over before 19th September and don’t forget to make a reservation. The place gets filled up in a matter of minutes. Once you’ve dined there you’d know why.
