With a name as innovative as ASAP! you’d expect something out of the ordinary from this new bistro, and happy to report, it lives up to our great expectations. And no, ASAP is not an acronym for ‘as soon as possible’ – in this case its As Social As Possible. So the food, ambience and service is all about living in the moment and savouring the experience with family and friends.
The brainchild of food connoisseur and trained chef Rehan Guha, ASAP!’s menu offers a smorgasbord of world cuisine that he’s tried, tested and mastered over the years. So what you get is Japanese Panko Fried Zucchini for starters, American Cajun Spiced Chicken Skewers and sizzlers, Cilantro Grilled Fish with Mexican Rice, Russian Stroganoff, Mongolian rice bowls, Thai green curries as mains, cheesecake and chocolate mousse for dessert –get the drift? Think around the world in 80 dishes.
My personal favourites were the Platter Combos so I could sample a bit of this and that, The Greek Pizza with hummus (yup, that’s a first), the Vegetable and Kidney Bean Pot Stew (my idea of soulfood), and if you’re having a particularly trying day at work, head here for some desi and spicy Lamb Kheema Pulao to let of steam, quite literally! The pancakes with chocolate mousse are oh-so decadent, with the perfect consistency of mousse ensconced in melt-in-the-mouth pancake rolls. If there were just one item I’d have to choose from the extensive menu, this would be the winner hands down.
Loved the quirky vibe of the place with its pop art theme, large open areas so you’re not jostling for elbow room with fellow diners, pedal pusher bar stools and the strategically placed pool table – they really do take the social in ASAP quite literally.
There’s also a ‘wall of fame’ where any diner who comes up with an interesting superlative as a substitute for the S in ASAP gets to have his or her word and name featured on it. I’m thinking Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!
